The school district Activities and Athletics Task Force is charged with reviewing the current system of extra curricular activities and athletics. The Task Force will evaluate what’s working and what isn’t, and may make recommendations to the Superintendent and Board.Considerations
- Philosophically, how do we view athletics and activities?
- How do athletics and activities fit into the school program?
- How do athletics and activities fit into Board policy?
- What is currently offered at each secondary school?
- The District no longer provides middle school athletics. CPRD currently provides various programs for our middle school youth. Are we satisfiedwith that arrangement, and is it meeting the needs of that level? Is this arrangement adequately preparing our athletes for high school competition?
- What is the current district budget allocation and expenditure breakdown for athletics and activities? What was the breakdown five years ago?
- What athletics and activities programs did the district offer five years ago that are no longer offered?
- If athletics and activities programs were to be added back, what priorities will guide those decisions?
- What do other districts around us offer?
- What would an “adequate” athletics and activities program look like?
- What do students want?
Co-Curricular Activities Philosophy
The Newberg School District considers co-curricular activities to be an integral part of the total educational program. Participation in these activities often provides the best opportunity for the development of student citizenship. Therefore, all students should be given the opportunity to participate in co-curricular activities.
