Wow, it is February already and we are officially HALF WAY through the year!  February is a break through month for student learning. 

Pajama Day is coming, on Friday, February 12th!  All pajamas must meet school dress code. 

All interested parents are invited to an informal parent coffee on Friday at 9 am.

State testing in grades 3rd - 5th will begin later this month.  A well rested and well fed student always performs better under testing conditions.

What amazing weather we had this weekend.  On Saturday it felt like May, and on Sunday it poured like March! 

Art Lit continues today, the next Art Lit session is scheduled for March.

There is no school this Friday.  Staff Developement day is the one opportunity that teachers have to plan and learn together.

Next week, on Tuesday, there is an assembly for 1st and 2nd graders.  It is called "Where's Rosie?" and is a 40 minute presentation about water conservation.

Thanks to our special volunteers that run the Art Lit program.  Students have loved drawing landscapes with pastels.  Art Lit continues this month next Monday, Jan. 25th. 

Safe Kids presentations will be wrapping up their program this week.  Their last presentation day is Thursday.

Welcome back!  Safe Kids presentations begin this week.  Juliette's House has been contracted by the County to do scripted presentations in every classroom in Yamhill county.  Kindergarten presentations will occur later in the spring.

Art Lit is scheduled for next Monday, Jan. 11th  and 25th.  Students should really enjoy recreating Turner's landscape art, especially because this painting has a castle.

The County Health Department will be here Friday afternoon for the second H1N1  immunization clinic.

On Tuesday morning the Mountain View Middle School Band will be performing a concert for the students.  This is a much anticipated holiday traditon at Mabel Rush.

In January, immediately following winter break, Juliette's House will be presenting the Safe Kids program in all classrooms.  Information is being sent home regarding the workshop. 

H1N1 booster shots are tenatively scheduled for a clinic at Mabel Rush on January 8th.  Permission slips have gone out today to all parents of K-4 students.  Booster shots are recommended for children age 9 and younger.

There was a great turn out for Movie Night last Friday.  Fun was had be all and students exhibited exemplary behavior.

All food items for the giving tree need to be returned to school by tomorrow, Tuesday.

Brrr!  Cold weather is upon us.  It's cold but its clear and students need to let off steam and work out the kinks at recess.  Please dress your children for outdoor recess during this cold snap.

Thanks to all who donated to the Civil War canned food drive.  A total of 1904 items of food were donated to Newberg FISH.  The Ducks won this year's canned food drive!

Report cards will be coming home this Thursday!

This Friday is Parent Group Movie Night at 6:00 pm.  The movie, Santa Buddies, is 90 minutes long.  There will be hotdogs, water, popcorn, and candy available for purchase.

There's a good chance that the Mountain View MS band will be visiting next week performing some holiday favorite tunes. 

Next Friday at 2:00 pm  is the annual Mabel Rush Holiday Sing-A-Long.

The Giving Tree is up in the school's lobby.  All items for the Giving Tree must be returned no later than next Tuesday, Dec 15th.

Tuesday evening is Family Math Night for families fo 3rd-5th graders.  The GFU education students who are currently in the math methods course are sponsoring the event.  It will be in the Library from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.

Thursday, December 3rd is the last day of our Civil War Canned Food Drive.  Right now the Beavers are ahead....

Report Cards will be sent home December 10th district-wide.

Next Friday is Family Movie Night at 6:00 pm.  The movie is Santa Buddies!  Bring your blankets and pillows, wear your pajamas and enjoy food and snacks and a fun time!

How to brine a turkey:  Mix 1 cup salt, 1 cup brown sugar, 2 oranges (squeezed and peelings), 1 lemon (squeezed and peelings), and lots of poultry seasoning in a bucket lined with a plastic garbage liner and 8 cups of cold water.  Put uncooked and unwrapped turkey in the mix for 4 to 24 hours of soaking and place in a cool place until ready to cook.  Rinse and bake as usua.  Bon Appetit!

Thanks to the 5th grade for getting the lobby ready for the Civil War canned food drive, especially this year when the Civil War game is a hot ticket to the Rose Bowl.  Canned food can be brought and left in the lobby from now until Dec. 3rd.

Report cards will be coming home soon, look for them on Dec. 10th.

Thanks to all the parent volunteers who helped last Thursday and to Shanna Andres for spending the whole day in the shot clinic.  Our students did great, Michelle Bergeron ran a highly organized clinic, and Shanna held it all together easing the way for our kids.  Thank you all!  Stay tuned for further news of a second clinic  possibly in January.
