Newberg High School offers students courses in drama, acting and stagecraft in excellent theater facilities built in 2006. Courses introduce students to the basics of acting, theater history and technical theater for those who want to continue in theater classes and school productions and for those who want to try it for fun. More serious students can develop technical, acting technique, and audition skills in advanced classes. Stage movement courses provide s a physical preparation for theater students.
Newberg High School drama students stage three plays during each school year including a musical, Shakespeare and original works in the annual Tournament of Plays.
The Man Who Came to Dinner: Runs February 4, 5, 6 and 11, 12, 13
While on a speaking tour in Ohio, an opinionated and arrogant radio personality injures himself slipping on ice and becomes an unexpected houseguest for a prominent area family, the Stanleys. The radio personality proceeds to make brash proclamations and offer his unsolicited advice to the family members. When a romance begins between the radio personality's assistant and a local reporter, he interferes with that as well.
Macbeth: Runs April 21, 22, 23 and 28, 29, 30
Macbeth is an intriguing Shakespeare tragedy full of contradiction and ambition. The Scottish general Macbeth puts his faith in three witches that he will be king someday, after their first prophesy about him comes to pass.
