What a turn in weather as we ended the week....Fall is here!
Please make sure you are checking the weather and your student is dressed appropriately for rain or shine. We are outside regardless of rain so making sure kids can stay warm and dry is important. The weather changes day to day during this season and we want to make sure kids are able to have fun at recess but also be comfortable to learn in the classroom.

Join us Thursday October 29th from 6-7 pm in the Edwards Cafeteria to learn more about the District Restructuring Committee's recommendations to create a financially sustainable school district.
This year we have conferences earlier than we typically do so we have decided to postpone our Back to School Night so that we don't have back to back family events. We hope to see you at conferences!

Parent-Teacher Conferences |
We have Parent-Teacher Conferences coming up on Wednesday Oct. 7th and Thursday Oct. 8th. You should have already received a message to sign up for a time slot from your student's teacher in Parent Square. If you need help signing up for a time, please contact your student's teacher.
We look forward to this time with families, getting to connect and learn about the classroom and how your student is doing.

Get ready to run! Our annual Jog-A-Thon is coming up Friday, October 2! Fundraising information will be sent home with students next week.
We are seeking volunteers before, during, and after to make our run a success.
Use the link to sign up through Sign Up Genius! A current volunteer badge is required (more info on that below).
Edwards families are all invited! No badge needed to watch! Watch the fun and cheer from the sidelines or run alongside your student!

HOW TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER
Need a volunteer badge? Go to the district office (located next door to Edwards, 8am-4pm, closed 12-1pm), to have your badge photo taken and to submit the following:
- Criminal Background Check (en Español)*
- Statement of Volunteer Confidentiality and Child Abuse Reporting (en Español)*
- Valid photo ID
* Forms are also available at the District Office in Spanish and English.
The process may take up to two weeks, so act soon! Your badge will be sent to Edwards when it’s finished. Please check in at the office to see if yours is ready. Adults will not be allowed to volunteer on Jog-a-thon day without a current badge.

EVO is the Edwards Volunteer Organization and we had our first EVO meeting this week. Missed the meeting, no worries. Check out our website and see how you would like to be involved at Edwards.

Edwards has three events coming up that need volunteers. Do you have the ability to volunteer for:
- Jog-a-thon
- Provide a staff meal during fall conferences
- Help organize a Wreath fundraiser (we have someone who has done it in the past and can give you loads of details)
Click the SignUp Genius link to sign up. You will need a current volunteer badge to participate in Jog-a-thon but not for bringing a conference meal. If you don’t have a volunteer badge, simply drop by the district office and fill out a form.

Visitors at Lunch
We have had a lot of families wanting to come to school to eat lunch with their students. I wanted to share a few reminders to keep our school and students safe.
If you'd like to eat lunch with your child, please -
- Communicate the date with your student's teacher. They will make sure the office knows to expect your arrival. If it is not pre-arranged with the classroom teacher, and communicated to the office ahead of time, we may not be able to accommodate.
- Arrive only for the lunch period of your student.
- Check in and out at the front office.
- We will not be able to have parents or families at recess, so be sure to walk back to the front office and check out after the lunch period.
- Thank you for your help in keeping our school safe.
Friday Food Bag
Edwards Elementary is pleased to partner with Newberg FISH to welcome eligible Edwards School students the free "Friday Food Program".
If you would like your student to receive a "Friday Food Bag" we have forms in the office to complete.
Important Repeat Information:
Morning Supervision
This is a friendly reminder that our school gates do not open for breakfast until 7:20 AM. If you arrive before this time, please note that there is no supervision available and you will need to stay with your student. We appreciate your cooperation in helping keep all students safe!
Regular Attendance
Regular attendance fosters consistency, which is vital for academic success and social development. It helps students stay engaged, build routines, and develop time management skills essential for future endeavors. Additionally consistent attendance ensures that students don't miss out on valuable learning opportunities, such as classroom discussions, hands on activities and interactions with peers and teachers.

Reminder about our furry friends
A friendly reminder: While we love our furry friends, please remember that dogs are only allowed on school grounds if they are certified service animals. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe environment for all our students.
Sun, Rain, Wind, Sun, Rain
As the weather can change rapidly this time of year, it's important that students come prepared with layered clothing to stay comfortable throughout the day. Layers allow for easy adjustments as temperatures fluctuate. We also encourage families to label all clothing, including jackets, sweaters, and hats, to help prevent lost items. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping students warm and organized!
