Welcome to Kindergarten at Newberg Schools!

 Kindergarteners interacting with their teacher

Kindergarten is available to children who turn five years old on or before September 1 of the school year.

As an important part of our district’s educational program, kindergarten provides a strong foundation for learning and growth. Students engage in a full day of instruction that includes reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, art, music, physical education, and health.

Kindergarten is offered at every neighborhood school, and students attend the school within their attendance area. In addition, Newberg-Dundee Public Schools offers two optional kindergarten programs for families who are interested in alternative learning opportunities.

Dual Language Program

The Dual Language program began in the 2013-2014 school year at the kindergarten level and an additional grade level was added to the program each year. The class of 26 students consists of an equal number of native English and Spanish speakers. This is a full-day kindergarten program located at Edwards Elementary School. Students are selected for this program each year in a lottery. The lottery is held after the kindergarten roundup. Students in the Migrant Preschool Program are automatically eligible as are students with siblings in the program.

Chehalem Online Academy (COA)

Chehalem Online Academy is a tuition-free virtual program for Grades K-12 families in Newberg-Dundee Public Schools. The hybrid online learning program blends online instruction with regular contact with a highly qualified teacher. Parents maintain a leadership role in their child’s education planning.
