How Our Curriculum Is Formed

Newberg-Dundee Public Schools curriculum is a standards-based curriculum that aligns with the Common Core and Oregon state standards. Standards-based education tells everyone — students, families, teachers, and administrators — what all students are expected to know and be able to do within their grade levels and content areas.

Learn More About Oregon State Standards and Common Core

Oregon's state education system aims to prepare all students for success through established benchmarks and standards. These academic standards create consistency throughout Oregon schools in student knowledge and abilities upon graduation.

Oregon’s standards-based system makes our goal of success for all students achievable because the statewide content standards create consistency in what all students are expected to know and be able to do. The standards are about keeping the focus on our kids and ensuring they have the skills to succeed.

Common Core Standards

The Common Core State Standards are a set of shared K-12 learning expectations for students in English/language arts and mathematics adopted by Oregon and 41 states in the U.S. These two sets of content standards replace Oregon’s current standards in English/language arts and mathematics. While the new standards are similar in some ways to Oregon’s previous standards, some content was shifted and the level of rigor was increased to ensure college and career readiness at the end of high school.
